TUNDRA SWAN - PHASE 1 |
June 1, 2005
In this first phase, I have decided on the orientation of the swan, the size of the carving and the appropriate antler. This particular antler had a great deal of thickness on the edges and a sweeping curve on the right side. This will allow me to carve the right wing in relief, with foreshortening and the added effect of the wing actually curving around toward the viewer. The thickness of the antler will allow me to push the head, neck and left wing far to the rear of the carving, adding to the 'in the round' illusion. I printed out the image of the swan in the negative, so that the feathers and the structure were more obviously apparent - the original swan image posessed a high contrast and was hard to make out.
Till next time,
Shane
