Back to Main Page REST AND SING - PHASE 8

May 1, 1997

I have just returned to Faro from Vancouver, where I had the pleasure of delivering "Rest and Sing" to its new owner. Amazing as it sounds - it was actually cheaper to fly down to Vancouver with the carving than to send it via courier!

The weather was lovely: a little rain, with plenty of blossoms and fresh spring scents in the air.

John was kind enough to introduce me to a few people in Vancouver who may be interested in commissioning work. He also treated me to a few delicious meals.

The carving was a surprise gift for his wife, Joanna. She was certainly surprised and seemed to like the work very much. I hope they enjoy it for many years to come!

Thanks to Lucinda and Fernando for putting me up. Thanks especially to Fernando for guiding me through the Home Depot and solving a time consuming Unix problem at Kingko, the copy place where I printed out my web site in dazzling colour.

The final work on "Rest and Sing" was done with Dremel sanding disks and polishing felts. It was a time consuming process with such tiny tools. I've purchased a larger polishing wheel and felt for next time.

Speaking of which, I will begin work soon on the next commission, an absract design on a found moose skull. The piece was commissioned by Richard Olson.

Till then,

Shane
