THE SHOOTING OF DAN McGREW - PHASE 6 |
March 19, 2001
Dan McGrew has been roughed out in mammoth ivory. You can see that he has legs, at the moment, but I am not sure that they can be saved. There is a portion under the lower leg that is quite narrow, due to the loss of a cone tip at that location. I will work with this figure to try and save the legs, and to create the illusion of full roundness. Failing this, the legs will be replace with mahogany. The coat will be fashioned from mahogany in a later phase.
I discovered the technique for combining wood and ivory in figures in the Netherlands, at the Reichmuseum. It makes for a very fine combination.
Take care for now,
Shane
