FARO FANNIN - PHASE 6 |
February 2, 2001
I decided to make some major changes in this phase, dropping the background mountains and midground hills. Instead of having 10-12 planes to deal with in certain sections, I now have only 6-8 planes.
As you can imagine, this has enabled me to give a little more meat to the important portions of the carving, namely the sheep and the roots. The changes will permit a greater feeling, or illusion, that the elements of the sculpture are done 'in the round'.
There is always an element of anxiety when steps like this are taken. (Hightened by others, who, when informed of the changes, exclaim, "You did what!") In this case, the risk was worth it. Without the mountains, the sheep, roots and foreground definitely take on the third dimension!
Till next time (12 days till show time!),
Shane
