Back to Main Page FARO FANNIN - PHASE 3

January 23, 2001

This phase is concerned primarily with the roughing out of the major planes on the right side of the antler. I have also roughed out the roots of the fallen tree.

Since I have four grinding tools and two of the tools have an extra handpiece, I had many burrs at my immediate disposal for reducing and refining the masses and shapes. This makes the work flow smoothly, and allows the achievement of a satisfactory result as I go.

(Using one burr/one handpiece for all the carving is a less desirable situation since it is necessary to stop frequently to change burrs as required. With the collet system, this takes time, and the temptation is to keep carving with the same burr for as long as possible. This can become a little frustrating after a while.)

Till next time,

Shane
