Back to Main Page EAGLE ON ARROWHEAD - PHASE 4

January 27, 1998

My how much of a difference a day makes! Our little community of Faro has experinced its fair share of hardship over the last few years, and has just been hit again. The local mine, of which I spoke last week, is closing its doors in February due to the low metal prices and sluggish world economy. Everyone will be laid off. Nasty business in the middle of a Yukon winter.

Needless to say, I've had a little more time to carve lately!

The eagle is now finished stage one - roughing out. Over the next day or so, I'll refine the lines, then sand and polish. That done, I'll carve the soapstone into the shape of an arrowhead and mount everything on the oak backing. Hopefully, the work will be completed by Friday.

The Fulda Tire people will be flying into Whitehorse from Germany in February to witness the start of the Yukon Quest Dog Race from Whitehorse to Fairbanks. It will be nice to have this piece completed in time for display at the Whitehorse Airport.
