DALL SHEEP 2 - PHASE 4 |
December 1, 1999
In this stage the centre-left sheep and the sheep to the far right and back have been roughed out. Also, the background rocks behind the left sheep have been defined.
I had originally intended for the back sheep to have a full set of curled horns and be looking away from the viewer, but the horn itself intervened! The curve of the side of the horn was too extreme and did not allow for the proper effect of the carved horns when viewed from the main angle from which the other sheep are to be viewed. Instead, I gave the rear sheep a smaller set of horns, with only one horn showing as the head is now in profile. This seems to work a little better.
The heads still need detailing and the bodies are too thick (ie. material needs to be removed from behind each sheep, but it will stay for now until I am convinced the relief effect works at the current depth. It will be important now to rough out the other sheep before proceeding to further details here.
The background rocks have been shaped for interest and two holes have been created, to allow light to pass through, to illuminate the front portion of the horn with natural light from behind.
