Back to Main Page DALL SHEEP 2 - PHASE 3

January 12, 1999

It still looks terrible! The first few phases do, especially with sheep horn.

As you may be able to see, the background rock shapes have been further roughed out, freeing up the forms of the two sheep closest to the upward curve. I have also removed most of the marrow section and this will further separate the uppermost sheep from the rock background.

I have used the large Foredom with a straight 1/4" bit and the smaller 1/8" bit exclusively, and the rough nature of the edges shows this. The horn is composed of a hair-like substance and it "frays" about the edges quite easily. Carving horn is quite hard on the tools, with plenty of binding, shuddering and uncontrollable vibrating in the tight spaces.

Don't despair though, all will come right in the end :)

Till next time,

Shane
