CELTIC CONFUSION - PHASE 8 |
July 15, 1998
Finally, finished. This one has taken the longest to complete of any carving thus far.
The finishing work consisted of evening out the surfaces, refining the lines, reducing the tines, then sanding and polishing the entire piece.
It is my first work which has not been pre-commissioned. I'm taking it with me to Inuvik for the Great Northern Arts Festival. Leaving with Gerry Kortello and his family later today, the trip north should take about 20 hours. The Festival runs from July 17-26 and will include artists from accross the north - about 150 in total. While there, I will be working on "Candle Ice" as part of a demonstration of my craft. The Festival is meant both to display art and to provide an opportunity to show the artists at work. I am looking forward to participating.
Till next time (or till I see you in Inuvik!),

Celtic Confusion was damaged in shipment (October 1999). The stand, originally attached to the back, broke away from the sculpture. Instead of re-attaching the stand, I decided to redesign the back without an attached stand. The carving, evident in the last image below, is new. The sculpture will now be displayed on a separate stand. (The middle two images below are are retakes.)
