CANDLE ICE - PHASE 7 |
This phase has been the most difficult technically. Working to create a second relief that appears to be the back of the design blending seamlessly with the front, is not easy. If the piece were to be view directly from either front or back, then the illusion would be complete. However, from the sides, it is a different matter. Alas, such are the limitations of the media!:)
This summer, I'll be attending Encounters'99: A Circumpolar Arts Festival.
The Festival will take place in Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada at the McMichael Gallery from July 7-12 and in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Ontario College of Art and Design and Queenís Quay from July 13-16. While in Toronto, other lunch hour venues for the Festival will include Nathan Phillips Square (July 13) and the Metro Square. (July 15).
This Festival is modelled on the Great Northern Arts Festival, Inuvik, NWT and will feature northern artists at work. It is truly a unique experience to see northern carvers turning stone and bone into art (and dust!). I am planning to bring "Millennium Tusk" (a 10.5ft. mammoth tusk) with me, and to begin the carving of it in Kleinburg. I'm also looking forward to carving outside at Queen's Quay.
Till next time,
Shane
