CANDLE ICE - PHASE 3 |
Inuvik and the Great Northern Arts Festival. What a wonderful time! Many thanks to all those who helped out up there. You might find your name on my thank you page ... :) Also, if you haven't done so already, check out the Festival's web site via my links page. It is worth a good look!
While in Inuvik, I was able to work on "Candle Ice". I completed the scroll saw work, cutting the pieces from the inside of the antler, then began to rough out the triangles with the large straight bit. I think for further roughing I'll try the large, single fluted drum bit.
I have been debating about whether or not to make the piece a relief, or have the triangles appear front and back. I'm inclined to the sculptural effect of having the triangles appear solid, front and back. We'll see if this effect can be achieved within the varying thicknesses of the antler.
While in Inuvik, there were a few suggestions for a proper name for this piece: "Love Triangles," "Candle Ice," and "Hoar Frost." Hmmm. What do you think?
I have a few commissions to attend to and may not get back to this piece for a few weeks. So we'll see you then.
Till next time,
Shane
