This sculpture, carved from moose antler, represents a tundra swan. These swans spend their summer in the arctic tundra and migrate south, many thousands of miles across the Yukon. The tundra swan was chosen by the Yukon Hospital Foundation to be their symbol for a fundraising drive for this very reason.
I have carved curved abstract elements into the rear wing, to represent the caring labours of the hospital staff and angled abstract elements into the forward wing to represent the technology, equipment and building required by the hospital and for which it was raising funds.
The title of the campaign was, appropriately, "Under Our Wing."
