The search for a stolen Yukon sculpture has not resulted in any leads so far, but the piece is now registered with the world's largest database for lost and stolen art. As Susan Stanley reports, the Art Loss Register has a proven track record of recovering multi-million dollar pieces:

Works by Pablo Picasso, Edouard Manet and Paul Cezanne have all been stolen and later recovered by the Art Loss Register. The work of a former Yukon artist was stolen too, but so far, not been found.
Seasons, a moose antler sculpture by Shane Wilson, went missing last September. The moose antler piece was stolen from the Canada Games Complex. Wilson says there may be a better possibility of finding it now that it's listed with the Art Loss Register.

"The piece, being registered there, has a lot more chance of being seen if there's a sale attempted." (quote from Shane Wilson, Sculptor)

The Art Loss Register is an international organization. It works with police around the globe to unearth stolen treasures.

Chris Marinello is the organization's Director and General Counsel:

"We get our reports from law enforcement worldwide. We share our information with Interpol, the Italian Carabinieri, the FBI and Canadian Law enforcement." (quote from Chris Marinello, Director and General Counsel, Art Loss Register, NY, USA)

Marinello says art thieves can employ sophisticated methods when they go after and item, but that's not always the case.

"There are a lot of just basic crooks. And sometimes they are not exactly that bright. Which brings me to the recent sculpture stolen in the Yukon Territory." (quote from Chris Marinello, Director and General Counsel, Art Loss Register, NY, USA)

According to the FBI, stolen art is a six billion dollar a year business.
